Position : Project Coordinator Education

Duty Station : Kalulushi Field Office

Role Purpose : The Project Coordinator will be responsible for delivery on education program in the field office.  The PC Education will also have responsibilities for growing the education programme in the field (in collaboration with the Field Manager and other thematic managers). He/she is the technical lead for the education programme in the field and is responsible for ensuring that programme development and implementation adheres to Save the Children Zambia national strategy and with Save the Children global initiatives, supported by the Education Advisor.   The incumbent will be reporting to the Field Manager.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Programme management and quality:

  • Ensure effective activity and financial planning and implementation are in line with SCI and grant requirements.
  • Establish and strengthen networks with Ministry of Education Science Vocation and Early Education (MESTVEE) and other lines ministries including other BE, ECCDE, SHN and AD providers both NGOs in the district and province.
  • Ensure that Child protection and other projects are well integrated in the education program.
  • Facilitate community engagement including parents, caregivers and other duty bearers to support education and child right.
  • Participate actively in finance/awards meetings and contribute to financial decision making
  • Ensure that projects adhere to international standards and best practices, with full donor compliance (including delegated budget management responsibility).
  • Maintain regular communication with the grants management team to ensure that the project is donor compliant in project implementation.
  • Ensure that high quality reports are submitted on time.
  • Ensure timely partner disbursement and reporting to implementing partners including ensuring efficient utilization funds.

Programme development and fundraising:

  • Lead on situation analysis / needs assessments and ensure that all proposals respond to beneficiary needs and are coherent with the CO education strategy and with global Save the Children initiatives.
  • Support the development of concept notes and proposals for education, and support the development of multi-sector proposals with the child protection coordinator.
  • Advocate on the importance of education in development and emergency settings.

Performance management and capacity building:

  • Lead, manage and motivate direct reports, ensure they have clear objectives and work plans and receive meaningful feedback on their performance regularly.
  • Create and maintain a cooperative and positive working environment where Education staff have clear roles and responsibilities, participate in decision making and are supported in progressing towards their personal development objectives.
  • Lead on capacity building of staff through coaching, mentoring and training.
  • Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child protection, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.

Advocacy:

  • In coordination with the Field Manager represent Save the Children to relevant government authorities, donors and members of the development community.
  • Contribute to advocacy and policy engagement at district and provincial level.

QUALIFICATIONQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Education, Social Science or related field with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Early Childhood Care, Development and Education, and Basic Education.
  • Demonstrated skills in the design of ECCDE/Basic Education programs.
  • Experience in proposal development.
  • Good analytical and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve objectives.
  • Strong knowledge in project cycle management.
  • English language proficiency a must.
  • Strong communication (verbal and writing skills), interpersonal and representational skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to dynamic changes and fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of word, Microsoft excel and power point.

Child Safeguarding:

Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.
